School Council

The role of the School Council is to support the Principal in running the school.

All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally formed bodies that are given powers to set the directions of a school within centrally provided guidelines.

At Glenferrie Primary School our Council consists of 12 members made up of our Principal, teachers and parents and they are responsible for working together to achieve the best outcome for the education of our children.

School Council does not manage the day-to-day running of the school as this is the responsibility of the Principal and staff. Instead it gets involved in things like:

  • Establish the broad direction and vision of the school within the school’s community

  • Develop and monitor the school strategic plan

  • Develop, review and update school policies

  • Approve the annual budget and monitor expenditure

  • Report annually to the school community and to DET

  • Stimulate interest in the school generally
