All students at Glenferrie Primary School attend a weekly 50-minute music lesson with a specialist Music teacher.
The music program is inspired by the Kodály philosophy, a singing-based curriculum that develops music literacy skills over time through the sequential introduction and practise of melodic elements. In time, students learn to write what they hear and sing what they see.
In year 3, students commence playing the recorder, and in the senior years students perform a variety of works, including their own songs, in small instrumental groups and large ensembles.
Instrumental music tuition and a rock band program is offered at the school from external music providers, and there is a choir for grade 3-6 students that rehearses before school once a week and performs frequently in the local community.
